| Made up of ten volcanic islands and five tiny islets, Cape Verde combines spectacular mountain ranges with deserted beaches. Each individual island has its own character, from lush and lively Santiago to the quiet diving islet of Boa Vista. The islands have some of the best windsurfing conditions in the world, and diving is a treat, with many 16th century shipwrecks lining the ocean floor. |

| Many visitors' first impression of Cape Verde comes through the mournful songs of Cesaria Evoria, the island's best known singer. The ‘barefoot diva' is the best exponent of morna, a lovelorn type of folk music similar to Portuguese fado. Music is a key component of life on Cape Verde, and several islands stage exuberant carnivals, with the best known being the Baia das Gatas Festival. The government in Cape Verde is currently implementing a new National Development Plan (NDP) in order to develop a thriving tourist industry as this is seen as a potentially huge growth area for the islands. It's main aim is to improve the infrastructure of the islands in order to make it into a top class tourist destination including air, maritime, inter-island, road, communication, banking, health provision, electricity, water and sanitation provision. Sal is the island currently attracting most tourists with 66.7% of all hotel visitors. Tourism has for several years been Cape Verde's main economic activity and current trends indicate that the sector will continue to expand considering the numerous projects underway. The main international airport is loacated in Sal. However a second international airport opened in the island of Santiago at the end of 2005, showing a bright future for growth of the tourism industry on the islands and again suggests significant return on investments for people who purchase early. Property in Cape Verde is for sale at a fraction of the cost of real estate in the UK, Spain or Cyprus for example, and it offers very good value for money. Because so many developments are under construction and development on the main islands, you can buy off plan early on and not only benefit from low entry costs but enjoy the option of buying and reselling, or ‘flipping’ before the property is even completed. This approach allows successful investors to realise a gain on their investment within a very short space of time. |
